These maps are drawn using engineering data from the FCC. The coverage pattern for WWBF is based on the standard horizontal field strength pattern, the frequency of the station, and the ground conductivity of the local area.
- Local Coverage: Within this area, you should be able to receive WWBF on almost any radio with moderately good to very good reception.
- Distant Coverage: Within this area, the signal of WWBF may be weak unless you have a good car radio or a good stereo with a good antenna. You may not be able to receive WWBF at all on walkmans or other portable radios.
- Fringe Coverage: Within this area, WWBF's signal will be very weak. You may be able to receive WWBF if you have a very good radio with a good antenna, but it's possible that interference from other stations may prevent you from picking up WWBF at all.
The local, distant and fringe lines on the WWBF coverage maps corresponds to the predicted 2.5, 0.5, and 0.15 mV/m contours respectively (of the horizontal groundwave propogation only).
To a large degree, AM radio signals travel through the ground. This means that the electrical conductivity of the ground greatly affects how far the radio signal will travel. The geology of the United States varies greatly from one area to another, and this affects the conductivity of the earth. Sea water, however, has a much higher conductivity than the ground, so AM radio signals will always travel much farther over sea water than over land. You can learn more about ground conductivity at the FCC's website.
However, there are many factors that contribute to radio reception. One of the biggest factors is your radio -- some radios will perform much better than others in trying to pick up distant radio stations. Other factors include interference from radio signals bouncing off nearby buildings (multipath interference), interference from other stations on adjacent frequencies. Very mountainous terrain, or very non-typical geology can also affect radio signals. At night, AM signals can bounce off the ionosphere and travel great distances. Click here for more information from the FCC regarding the issue: Why AM Radio Stations Must Reduce Power, Change Operations, or Cease Operations at Night

Calls made to 863-533-0745 or 877-720-5665 for participation in WWBF contests and requests may be aired live or recorded for future use. When placing the call, callers thereby grant permission for such uses of the call...as well as use in subsequent WWBF radio promotions without further notice or compensation.
Upon receipt of a "busy" signal or recorded message when calling to participate, hang up and redial. WWBF is not responsible for telephone problems or technical problems which either inhibit or increase the caller's chance of winning. WWBF makes every effort to insure accuracy when requiring listeners to answer questions. However should a disagreement arise, the decision of WWBF personnel is final.
Unless otherwise stated during the contest, only one prize will be awarded per household in a two calendar month period. For example, a winner in January will not be eligible again until March. Winners may be required to produce photo identification. All contestants must be 18 years of age or older. No purchase is necessary to enter WWBF contests. Prizes are not exchangeable. Any taxes, gratuities, or other expenses incurred in connection with prizes awarded by WWBF are the responsibility of the winner.
Prizes must be picked up at the WWBF Studios at 1130 Radio Road, Bartow, Florida during regular business hours...Monday through Friday between 8:30am and 5pm...within 14 calendar days of winning. WWBF is not responsible for prizes not claimed within that time period.
Employees of WWBF and it's parent company Thomburg Communications, Inc. or of respective affiliates, client sponsors, and other Polk County radio stations are ineligible to participate in WWBF contests. Members of the immediate families of the above stated ineligible participants are also ineligible. Immediate family is defined as...parents, children, spouse and those in spouse-like relationships, and siblings including those in step and half relationships when living in the same household.
Additional rules may apply to certain WWBF contests.
